Our Managing Director, Mark Bayley-Smyth facilitated a panel discussion this morning, hosted by the Institute of Family Business and Be the Business. The panel discussion was part of an event for owners of small and medium family businesses in the North West to share insights and experiences, and contribute to the wider success of the sector.

On the panel was Tony Danker, Chief Executive of Be the Business, who shared his insights on business development and competitiveness. Mike Roberts (Deputy Chairman of Frank Roberts & Sons) and Simone Peppi (Founder and CEO of Pilot Group), shared their experience, successes and the challenges they faced managing and growing their family businesses.

Be the Business, Chaired by Sir Charlie Mayfield of the John Lewis Partnership, is the movement that supports UK SMEs and helps drive up their performance and competitiveness.

This event was kindly hosted by Frank Roberts & Sons’ bakery.

Success in business is measured by a variety of different attributes. Success can mean hitting a specific profit margin or any number of other performance goals. But no matter how you measure success within your business, you need the right people to help you achieve those goals. At one time, the notion of success was dedicated to the idea that you had to have a sole leader in position to drive the team to their goals. However, this notion is no longer an option for most businesses.
